Hawn State Park Ang and Eva to gorgeous Hawn State Park. March 22-23, 2003 |
|
Three Creeks Conservation Area Denise and Eva went to Three Creeks to enjoy the water in the summer heat (July 25-27, 2003) and got loads more great stuff then they bargained for. This was a great wildlife viewing trip. Though sadly, no photos of that. They always run away too fast. |
|
Chubb Trail, St. Louis County Parks Eva was alone this time to all kinds of St. Louis County Parks on the 7 mile Chubb Trail (Aug 10, 2003). It made for a long trek that day (14 miles there and back) but well worth it for the gorgeous summer beauty of flowers and butterflies along the Meramac River. |
|
Door County, Wisconsin Ok, so this was not exactly backpacking in the traditional sense, but we carried all our stuff with us. Rozzy and Eva had a grand time cycling the Door County Pensisula in Northern Wisconsin. Wow, talk about gorgeous. We took a whole week to enjoy it too! |
|
Around the St. Louis, MO Area This is also not backpacking officially but it is hiking so it fits. I recently discoved Hike Club St. Louis and this is a couple of trips I went on with them. They are a great group. Check out the photos here and the group at http://www.hikeclubofstlouis.com |

North Sylamore Creek Hiking Trail, Blanchard
Springs, Arkansas Yay! This time it is the Great Girls for real. We were WAY over due and this trail definitely made up for it. It was an incredible mix of ecosystems so we never got bored of looking at stuff. A fantastic bonus was that it was leaf-off and the views were never ending overlooking the creek that was our guide the whole way. Between the scenery and the company this was an awesome trip. Thanks Girls!!! |

Sam A. Baker State Park, MO.
Dec 12-14, 2003 The 12-mile Mudlick Trail turned out to be custom made for a Great Girls trip. It was 1.5 miles to the first shelter where we spent a cozy night. The backpack camp was perfectly just over halway through the remainder of the trail. This trip welcomed two newcomers but they were troopers and went up and down with the more experienced Denise and I. The weather was chilly but we were prepared and enjoyed the snowfall on Saturday night. Congrats also on the many creek crossings that added spice. |

Giant City State Park, IL.
Feb 6-8, 2004 This was a perfect venture into a winter wonderland complete with snow, ice and a night of 4 degrees. We hiked the 16-mile red cedar hiking trail which proved to be all the beauty that was promised. It is quite a challenging trail with ups and downs not bothering with switchbacks but these women where troopers and we made it the whole way and then some. We even managed to bushwack our way back to the place we started. Ask one of us for details of our unexpected, but awesome adventures! |
